Lamar Odom or Deron Williams
Esther Sanchez
Per.6
The Lakers team is deciding whether to get Lamar Odom back or to get Deron Williams. Williams used to hate the Lakers because they defeated his team 3 times in a row for the playoffs so most likely he is thinking of saying no to their offer. Also the Lakers have very little to be spending on free agents. There biggest offer that they can offer is 3 million “mini” mid-level exception. William said that he knows that they don’t have that much money to just go out and sign him he said that it’s going to have to be some kind of trade. He has a player option for 17.8 million next season with New Jersey. He got to average 21 points and 8.8 assists this season.
There is a rule that says that a player cannot go back to his old team until after a whole year passes after being traded. Odom is 32, he had a rough season with Dallas. Averaging a career low 6.6 points before deactivated towards the end of the regular season. He is still officially a member of Mavericks. He was due to earn 8.2 million next season. Odom has to wait 6 weeks if he wants to join the Lakers in December.

Heat survive Rondo's huge night with 115-111
Back and forth they went in overtime, Rajon Rondo and the Miami Heat. Rondo scored. The Heat answered. Then again, and again. Eventually, Rondo missed, one of the rare times he didn't deliver on an unforgettable night. Moments later, the Heat took the lead for good, finally able to close out a wild Game 2 of the Eastern Conference finals. Rondo scored all 12 of Boston's points in overtime, capping a 44-point, 10-assist, eight-rebound effort in which he played every second of a 53-minute game. The Heat expected Boston's best — and the Celtics didn't disappoint, yet still head home for Game 3 on Friday night facing a deficit no Boston team has rallied from to win a series since 1969.
Listen, we played terrific," Celtics coach Doc Rivers said. "I told them, we played extremely hard. I thought we played with great heart tonight, but I didn't think we played smart all the time. And there are things we can absolutely fix, and we'll do that. We'll be ready for Friday." Mario Chalmers scored 22 for the Heat, who took 47 free throws — 24 by James — to Boston's 29."This group had resolved," Wade said of the Celtics. "They came out and played a great game. It was physical early. They brought the game to us. That can't happen. We used our crowd and the energy to get back into the game and we had to play better."

Celtics sadly lost to the Miami Heats

Many people have been sad to the loss of the Celtics on game 1 against the Miami Heat’s in the American Airline Arena. The Celtics sadly lost to the Heats by 14 points. In the opening half the Celtics had done four technical fouls plus one in the second half. In the first quarter the Heats were in the lead by 21 to 11. In the remaining quarters the Heats were still on the lead until the Celtics tied up to them 46 to 46. After both teams tied, Lebron James and Dwayne Wade shifted gears for the Miami Heat’s.
The Celtics coach Doc Rivers said that Lebron and Wade had an extraordinary defense throughout the game. He thought they did a great job of doubling, getting back, and playing the passing lanes. He also thinks that they are as quick as a cat that is how the game of the Celtics and the heats ended.

Western Conference Semi-Finals: San Antonio vs. Los Angeles Clippers
Kevin Zelaya May 17, 2012 Per 4
Nobody would ever suspect that Lob City LA Clippers would make it this far to the Conference semi, but it doesn’t mean they would make it to the finals. Clippers are facing the #1 ranked team in the NBA this season, The San Antonio Spurs which are the 2nd best ranked scoring team averaging 103.7 PPG (Points Per Game). But Chris Paul is one of the top five in Assist and Steals, well CP3(Chris Paul) is the only player that is on the top five for offense and defense INCLUDING The LA Clippers are the Top 10 for blocks and #1 for Steals. Not a bad thing for an underdog team. But The Spurs keys for shooting are their 3-pointers and Field Goals that make an average of 103.4. San Antonio got their shooting/offense while Clippers got their defense. So it’s a 50-50 game, but the series will last a 6 game with San Antonio defeat.
The prediction was wrong the series lasted a 4 game win which mad The Spurs undefeated with a 29-2 wins. The Spurs haven’t lost a single game since April 11 with a loss to the L.A. Lakers in the AT&T Center in San Antonio. Can OKC Thunder defeat Spurs for the Western Conference Championship or not? The LA Lakers have no chance to go to the next round with a 3-1 losing series.
Now LA Clippers tried their best to be on their nose, but it was too impossible. In Game 3 during the last minutes of the 2nd quarter thru the end of the 3rd quarter, The Spurs came back to a 24 point trail to a 50 point comeback. It’s one of the most embarrassing moments in the Staple Center, maybe even in the NBA a 50-9 point comeback less than 14 minutes. Not the most impressing game so far in the 2011-2012 seasons. LA Clippers made it this far to be in the playoffs and they will comeback for a vengeance someday once they have new/athletic players next season, or any other seasons. The Clips main key is to keep head coach Vinnie Del Negro. He brought young faces to the playoffs once more. Next time Clippers!

In the Eastern Conference Finals it is the Miami Heat versus the Boston Celtics. The wins are tied 3-3 and stakes are raised as they move on to game 7 the final game that determines who will be going to the playoffs. Under Miami’s belt they have won one championship in 2006. Last season in 2011 they made it to the finals but lost so it would be a good image on the team to win the eastern conference finals. On the other hand, the Boston Celtics have seventeen championships and the last one they have won was in 2008. Last season in 2011 they lost in the Eastern Conference Semifinals so if they win this season they would have an excellent season and comeback.

Clippers lose, then Lakers

The Thunders had beaten the Lakers at the playoffs. Scott Howard-Copper’s comment on this was that “Thunder gives their best Laker’s impression in semifinal win”. Thunder has won Game 5 victory despite the 42 points from Kobe Bryant. Thunder beat the Lakers with a 106-90 victory at Chesapeake Energy Arena on Monday night. Thunder advanced to Western Conference finals where San Antonio spurs await. The Laker continues with a pre-season game October 7 against Golden Sate in Fresno.
Westbrook said, “We got a little down on ourselves and we had to come together and be better teammates, and we did that”. And Westbrook also said, “I just tried to throw it to the rim and luckily it went in. That kind of sparked us, and everybody else kept it going from there.” Then, in Game 1, Thunder had lost against the Spurs 101-98.
Antonio ‘outscored’ Oklahoma City 50-26 in the paint. The Spurs have a 19-game streak and could it be the longest in the league since the Lakers won 19 consecutive in the 2001 regular season and playoffs.

Basketball is always entertaining to watch, especially in Los Angeles. But basketball in Los Angeles is over, because Lakers have lost the series against OKC thunder 4-1, and Clippers lost the series against the San Antonio Spurs 4-0. Lakers and Clippers both made it past the first round and both lost in the Conference Semifinals. All there is left in the Playoff series is Miami Heat, Boston Celtics, OKC Thunder, and San Antonio Spurs.
Lakers lost on the first to games of the Conference Semifinals, and then won the third game. After the third game OKC Thunder won every game from they’re on. Last season they lost in the Western Conference Semifinals too, sadly they couldn’t go past that this year. On the other hand, Clippers were swept 4-0 in the Conference Semifinals; last year did not qualify in the Playoffs at all so they had a huge step-up this year. Oklahoma City guard, James Harden suffered from a concussion when Metta World Peace of the Lost Angeles Lakers struck him in the head with an elbow on Sunday. World Peace elbow hit him above his left ear. Harden was expected to return to the game after halftime Sunday, but his symptoms worsened and he was held out. The league instituted a new concussion policy in December and Harden must pass the tests that were given before proceeding to his next games. Metta World Peace awaits any possible punishment from the NBA. World Peace has been suspended 13 times over his NBA career.
“Harden participated in a series of limited activities per NBA guidelines,” the team said in a statement. “The concussion suffered by James Harden demonstrates the dangers posed by violent acts of this kind, particularly when they are directed at the head area," NBA Commissioner David Stern said in a statement about World Peace's suspension. Metta World Peace will miss the Lakers season finale on Thursday at Sacramento and the Lakers next six games. World Peace will lose nearly $348,000 in salary if he serves the entire suspension this year. World Peace said his previous statements saying apologies to Harden and the Thunder organization.

Chicago Bulls

Now that the NBA basketball season is over and they are in the playoffs. So far the best score over all the teams have been the Chicago Bulls. They have the best record in the NBA. The Bulls have been pretty good in there games lately. In the past games that they have had, they have only lost 3 and they have won the rest. They have pretty good players for them to be winning most of there games. Most of them actually play very well and they use a lot of team work in their games.
They had a game on April 25th and the Bulls won. During the first two quarters the Bulls were winning. But then during the 3rd and 4th quarters it looked like they wanted to give up. But they got there energy back and they won after all. They played the Indian Pacers at Bankers Life Field house. They played with the same team for the 15th time this season. The first group led them to 20 points in 22 minutes. They also added a couple of 3 pointers to their game. Player Richard Hamilton scored just 4 points when he had scored 19 points in their Saturday’s game against the Dallas Mavericks.

Junior Seau dies at age 43

Former Charger Linebacker Junior Seau was found dead at his home in Oceanside, California. Police said that he was shot in the chest, but the gun was nearby him, so investigators suggest it was a suicide attempt. No one knows why or how he died but San Diego Chargers have lost their best Linebacker in their last fifty-two years of being in the NFL.
No one ever understood junior pain, they haven’t been on his footsteps, his team-mates, family, or anyone wasn’t there for him for his time for need, but like Seau’s mother said “it was too late”. But this wasn’t the first suicide attempt he tried, in October 2010; Seau survived a 100-foot plunge down a seaside cliff in his SUV. He told the media investigators, his friends, and family that he went to sleep, they said that Seau didn’t sound guilty, neither stutters.
San Diego Chargers president Dean Spanos said the best quote in Seau personality “He wasn't just a football player, he was so much more. He was loved by everyone in our family, our organization and throughout the NFL. This is just such a tragic loss. One of the worst things I could ever imagine. My prayers go out to Junior’s family.”

Oklahoma City Thunder vs. Los Angeles Lakers
The lakers were eliminated in five games against the Oklahoma City after Monda y may 21. 106-90 loss, the second year in a row lakers season ended in the NBA playoffs second round. “I think guys need to trust themselves more, I think some guys look at Kobe too much” world piece said during the interviews Tuesday. Bryant scored a ga me high 42 points but had no assists Monday. He was upset with Pau Gason on at fourthquater for deferring after a 103-105.
It may not be the most popular play, but I think the total is giving us the most value on Monday. When the Lakers and Thunder meet up they are averaging better than 195 points per game, and I look for both the Lakers and the Thunder to bring everything they have offensively to the table. That, combined with the fact that the total has gone over in four of the last five games between the Thunder and the Lakers, makes the over my play here.

“Lakers Big Win over the Oklahoma City Is anything But peaceful"
One, two, three, four times, maybe more, as the Lakers came from 18 points down to eventually beat the Oklahoma City Thunder in double overtime, 114-106, Sunday at Staples Center. Jordan Hill was an implausible hero, replacing unproductive Andre Bynum for the entire fourth quarter and both overtimes on the way to 14 points and 15 rebounds. Devin Ebanks was right behind him on the wow list, taking two key steals in the second overtime and often guarding Kevin Durant all by himself. Kobe Bryant was there all along, of course, shooting a ragged nine-for-26 but making game-seizing shots down the stretch as the Lakers took a firm hold on third place in the Western Conference and beat the Thunder for the first time in three tries this season. World Peace made a great move to beat Durant on a fastbreak dunk, then started aggressively thumping his chest and threw an out-of-control left elbow at Harden, who never returned because of a concussion. As Harden was down, World Peace made the added mistake of assuming a belligerent posture, as if ready to box, when Durant and Serge Ibaka approached him near midcourt. Referees stepped between them to stop further escalation
Metta World Peace was subdued and contrite in the Los Angeles Lakers' locker room, apologizing to Oklahoma City's James Harden throwing the elbow that sent them both to the locker room in the second quarter. Metta World Peace floored James Harden on Sunday with an elbow to the head. They both missed a beauty of a game that could echo into the postseason for two division leaders. Kobe Bryant scored six of his 26 points in the second overtime alongside an unorthodox Lakers lineup, and Los Angeles rallied from an 18-point deficit in the second half for a 114-106 victory over the Thunder on Sunday.Pau Gasol had 20 points, 14 rebounds and nine assists for the Lakers, who made an impressive comeback in their regular-season home finale against off-target Thunder stars Kevin Durant and Russel , who combined to miss 42 of their 56 shots. Los Angeles' rally stunned the Thunder and set an early tone for their possible second-round playoff matchup.''It's not so much that we beat Oklahoma, but how we did it,'' said Bryant, who shook off his own woeful shooting game with two key 3-pointers late in regulation. ''In the playoffs, particularly if you don't have home-court advantage, you're going to have games like this. We have to have the poise and the confidence to just keep chipping away.''

Metta World Peace suspended 7 games for elbow to James Harden
By: Chris Herrera
5/23/12
Metta World Peace (Lakers forward) was suspended on Tuesday by the NBA for 7 games for elbowing James Harden (#13 in the picture) in the head. Metta World Peace got ejected on Sunday evening vs. the Oklahoma City Thunder. Metta World Peace will miss the Lakers season finale on Thursday. He is going to miss the first round in the playoffs against the Denver Nuggets. World Peace had just made his 3rd dunk of the game and celebrated by pounding his chest and accidentally or on purpose hit James Harden in the head. Some people think it was accidentally but others think it was on purpose.
This is not the first time World Peace has done a violent action in the NBA. The other violent action happened in Detroit when Ron Artest (now he’s Metta World Peace) got mad at some fans because they were throwing stuff at him and it became a brawl! Metta World Peace will lose nearly $348,000 in salary if he serves the entire suspension this year. Harden suffered a concussion but will be ready for 2012 playoffs.

Floyd Mayweather wins unanimous decision Miguel Cotto
By: Linda Ceballos
May 1, 2012
Floyd Mayweather Jr. finally found himself in a real fight, complete with a bloody nose and an opponent in Miguel Cotto who was never going to quit.
As usual, he found a way to win.
Mayweather used his speed and accuracy Saturday night to take a unanimous decision over a game Cotto in a bruising bout to win a piece of the 154-pound title. But it wasn't easy, as Cotto landed some hard punches and kept attacking all the way to the final bell.
"You're a hell of a champion," Mayweather told Cotto in the ring afterward. "You're the toughest guy I ever fought."
Mayweather dominated late, rocking Cotto in the 12th round to pull out a win and remain unbeaten in 43 fights. Unlike most of his fights, though, Mayweather got his nose bloodied and engaged in some bruising exchanges he usually likes to avoid.
Two judges scored the fight 117-111 and the third had it 118-110. The Associated Press had Mayweather winning 116-112.
Fighting just a few weeks before he enters a county jail to serve a three-month sentence for domestic abuse, Mayweather found himself in a tough fight against a game opponent who never stopped moving forward. But he was faster and more accurate than Cotto and seemed to wear him down in the final rounds.
In the last round, Mayweather landed his best punch of the night, a left uppercut that seemed to hurt Cotto. He followed that with several flurries to the head to wrap up a decision that until the later rounds had been in doubt.

Playoffs Big Start
By: Jorge Vasquez
Period: 3 5-22-12
So far the playoff games have been huge. Injuries have taken place and there have also been some very important games. The playoffs began Saturday with two great wins but two huge losses for two teams. Chicago Bulls are playing against Philadelphia 76ers and a series best out of seven. Derrick Rose came back for the first game of the playoffs but suffered another injury that eliminated him from the playoffs. He was injured the games before this and thinking that he was ready to play he tore his ACL in the final minute of the game. The Bulls are still ahead 2 to zero in the series, we just have to see if they can keep it up. The second was an easy game for the Miami Heat winning 100-67 against New York Knicks. During the third quarter of the game Shumpert came down with an Injury also tearing his ACL, but in the second game another injury accured for the same team. Out of frustration New York Knick’s big man Amare Stoudimire, punched a fire extinguisher and injured his hand. Miami is also up 2 to zero in their series. The final injury so far was with Clippers shooting guard Caron Butler. He injured his hand in the first quarter against Memphis Grizzlies. He might be missing a couple of games of the playoffs.
There were 4 other games on Sunday. The first game was San Antonio Spurs against the Utah Jazz. It was a very easy game for Spurs winning by 15, 106-91 at San Antonio. They are up in the series 1 to 0 and the next game is on Wednesday. The second game were The Lakers against the Denver Nuggets. Lakers win game1 easily 103-88. Andrew Bynum came up big offensively and defensively scoring 10 points, getting 13 rebounds, and tying the most blocks in a playoff game getting 10. Lakers are now up 2 to 0 in the series. The following game was Boston Celtics vs. Atlanta Hawks and Hawks won the game 93-87. Rondo was suspended in game2 but Celtics still came up wit the win. The final game so far was Memphis Grizzlies and the Clippers. Clippers came back from 27 to win the game in the final minute by a point 98-99. So far this are the big things in the playoffs so far.

California Physical Fitness test upcoming for Virgil Students
By: Gie Kang, Claudia Marroquin, Sarah Marquez, and Belen Perez
California Physical Fitness Test is coming up for 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. Students might want to prepare themselves during the break since it takes place the week after spring break, which is on April 9th to April 13th. Last year’s test involved sit-ups, push-ups, a mile run, and measuring your height and weight. A mile run has to be finished in15minutes or less. The girls have to perform less sit-ups and push-ups compared to the boys. When the students’ height and weight are measured, it takes place in boys P.E. office.
We interviewed Mr. Davolt for information about CA physical fitness exam. He said “so you can see if you ate fit. Also it’s a state requirement for 6th, 7th, and 8grade students.” He told us that the routine is depends on their P.E. teacher. But usually, they start from weight and height because it’s the easiest. So for preparations, we asked him how many push-up and sit-ups that students has to do, but he said “it’s depends on your age, even though I have 6th graders right now, some are 11, some are 12.”
So that means everything is depends on your age and your teacher. Pray while spring break for easy test. Or you can practice running, push-up, and sit-ups! It may look like only a week, but a week might be a big change to who try their best to be fitted!

Every spring marathon runners run the streets of Los Angeles. In the last two years the marathons have been held in March because of its nice weather. The first LA Marathon was held in 1986 which had more than 10,000 contestants who made it the largest initial marathon in the world. During the marathon there are dances and songs to make the marathon more exciting and to encourage runners to keep going. There are usually 1, 00,000 witnesses standing near the finish line to congratulate the 23,000 runners.
This year the L.A Marathon took place on Sunday March 18, 2012. The forecasters predicted that there was going to be heavy showers. Many runners had to be geared up and prepared for the weather. The big bad race started at the Dodger Stadium and ended at Santa Monica Ocean Ave. The runners had eight hours to run the marathon that was approximately about 26 miles, which gave the person 15 minutes per mile before they closed the street down
A few of our students from Virgil Middle School ran the L.A Marathon this year. They were Cindy Bermejo, Franklin Franco, and Annie Yoo. Annie was sick when she ran the marathon and fainted, and soon after woke up in the hospital. However she was proud that her whole team finished. This was Annie’s first marathon. Cindy Bermejo felt she trained well, they ran weekends prior to the marathon. She felt proud to be running her first marathon. Finishing is what kept her going. Franklin Franco felt they trained well enough, they ran 21 miles on weekends before the marathon. This was not Franklin’s first marathon, this time he improved his time. Through out the run, he felt “pretty good because the weather was good.”

So we asked him “Do you think they played well?” and he answered “Lakers tried their best, but Clippers put more energy than the Lakers.” Also, we asked him “What team do you go for? Why?” He then replied “Lakers because they were better before and they need Phil Jackson.”In conclusion, all the teams that play against Lakers try their best, but Lakers always win.

The world pound for pound champion will face Timothy Bradley after his controversial fight with Manuel Marquez. The fight will take place on June 9 at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.
Timothy Bradley is a two-time WBC light welterweight champion with nickname of "Desert Storm." Bradley is a 5 ft 6in (1.68m) tall and has a reach of 69 in (175 cm). He was born in Cathedral city, California. In his entire career, he had twenty-nine games, twenty-eight wins and one TKO with zero loses.
We interviewed several people all over the world through Face book and we asked them who they would be going for in the fight. James Manimtim from Manila, Philippines said that he was still going for Pacquiao. While Keith Enrile disagree and said that “Marquez sucks, Pacquiao is not that fast anymore.” Even thou Manny is not facing Mayweather, Pacquiao will still be rumbling with an undefeated boxer.

Pacquio and Mayweather were waiting for this fight since 2011. Now that won’t happen anymore. What will happen on May 5th is a fight between Mayweather and cotto at the MGM Grand at Las Vegas. Manny Pacquio defeated Miguel cotto by a TKO, and is supposed to fight someone on June 9th.

He wouldn’t stand a chance against Pacquio. Still Pacquio is stupid not to fight because he would win.”

On Sunday, the Lakers went against their rival the Boston Celtics. It was a good game because of the two rivals Kevin Gornett and Kobe Bryant. Before, this game the Lakers were winning all of their games except the games against the Mavericks and the Clippers. The Celtics have been on a bumpy road where they will win then lose has bee the pattern.
Celtics lost 97 to 94. In every quarter the Lakers were up by ten points. In the last second of the game, Ray Allen went for the three pointer to go into over time. The player of the game was Ray Allen because he normally scored all of his 2 pointers. The reporter from ESPN said “Who knew Ray Allen Wouldn’t make the 3 pointer at the last second?”

Lakers beat Celtics!

Last year, January 30, 2011, the Lakers had lost the game against the Celtics by 109-96. The first quarter was Celtics: 22, Lakers: 21. The 2nd quarter was Celtics: 50, Lakers: 54, which were a Lakers winning score until that time. As the third quarter ended, the score was Lakers: 74, Celtics: 77. Then at the final, the Lakers’ score was 96 and the Celtics’ score was 109. But this year, it has changed.
TheLos Angeles Lakers and the Boston Celtics had a game at March 11, 2012 against Boston Celtics. Los Angeles scored 24 at Q1 but the Celtics got 14. At Q2, the Lakers earned 20 points and the Celtics, 28 points. The Celtics got 24 and the Lakers got 25 at Q3. At the final Q, the Lakers earned 25 and the Celtics earned 24 points. The LA Lakers total points were 97 and the Celtics total points were 24. So what do Mr. Davolt, who is Virgil’s inLA P.E. teacher and Brandon Kang, our school 6th grade student think about the game?
Belen, Claudia, and Sarah have interviewed Mr. Davolt about how he feels about the Lakers beating the Celtics. He said he felt happy and he’s glad that the Lakers beat the Celtics. “I’d like to consider myself a Lakers’ fan but I don’t have time to watch it.” He also said “I think they have a good chance to win every year but they have to be ready to play because the Celtics are always prepared.” They also interviewed Brandon Kang. He thinks they didn’t play well “because they had the ball too much and didn’t pass the ball to a teammate.” Then he said he wants “the Lakers to play with the Wizard, who is best, and the Chicago Bulls, who were trained to beat Lakers” was his opinion.

Super Bowl XLVI
By: Beverly Elusorio
On Sunday, February 5, 2012 was the first Super Bowl to be played in Indianapolis at Lucas Oil Stadium, also only the fourth time that the Super Bowl has been played in a cold weather. The giants quarterback Eli Manning, who completed 30 of 40 passes 296 yards and a touchdown, was named Super Bowl for the second time in his career. The Giants had put a new record of the poorest regular season record 9-7. The Super Bowl Was most watched program in the United States television. The New York Giants had 21 touchdowns and the Patriots had 17 touchdowns there. We asked one of our classmates, Kevin Zelaya about the Super Bowl.
Did you like the Super Bowl? “Absolutely”
How was the Super Bowl? “Exciting.”
Who did you go for? “I made a bet, fifty dollars For NY Giants.”
According to blogsnfl.com Eli Manning obviously was hot in demand, and he spoke with reporters and hugged teammates without his demeanor swinging one way or another. In other words, same old Eli. Manning now has two Super Bowl rings and two Super Bowl MVP awards and no one seem surprised.
“No doubt in my mind at all,” said Giants WR Mario Manningham, speaking about the final scoring drive. “I wasn’t even concerned. I knew he was going to pull it through, man. We worked too hard to get here.”

UCLA Bruins Basketball team using drugs and alcohol!

On March 5th, UCLA’s mysterious falling had been issued. They had been jumping fast at the game and transferred school. UCLA Bruins basketball program suffered a decline by Coach Ben Howland.
Players were using drugs before practice, alcohol, and fighting with their teammate. That’s because players of UCLA Bruins found out that Howland is socially awkward and disapproved of the verbal abuse. Another reason they are falling is that Howland only focus on strategy. They were missing teamwork. With no teamwork, they intentionally injured teammate and got no punishment.
Some people think it’s truly unbelievable that the coach wasn’t the first person to notice. But others think “drug policy is ridiculous and they should legalize the drug and be done with it.” But as the sport page, we think that "using drugs and drinking alcohol before games can be very dangerous and so irresponsible."

Saints or Sinners

The Saints have many fans. The New Orleans Saints have been paying the players to injure their opponents. Twenty-two out of twenty-seven players knew about the scandal. The defensive players were really the ones to know about the scandal. The Defensive Coordinator, Gregg Williams, offered $1000 to each player if the player was injured enough to be out of the game. He also offered $1500 if the players were very badly injured to the extreme. This event started from 2009 up to now. Sean Payton knew about the program but did absolutely nothing to prevent it from going on. This event is a violation of the bounty rule.
Gregg Williams and General Manager, Mickey Loomis, took full responsibility for this program. Anybody who knew about the program should have been severely punished.
Eighth grader Luis Flores said, “I’m not that mad at the Saints. Nobody important was injured, right? I still go for the Saints though! There are other teams that have done worse programs, though they haven’t been revealed yet. I know all the players names by heart. But I also hope the NFL hires new coaches! I wonder what Pete means. Just so it’s clear, they Rock!!! (The Saints)"

By:Raphael Lagsit, Yeho Lee, and Ivan Odiver
Dogs are considered to be man’s best friend. In March 5, 2012, the most awaited sled dog race will take place in Alaska. Wonder what it is? It is the Iditarod “the last great race” so if you like the movie “Snow Dogs”, this is the sport in March that you should check out
The Iditarod annual race is a 1,049-mile (1,688 km) sled dog race run in early March from Anchorage to Nome. Mushers and a team of 12-16 dogs, of which at least 6 must be on the towline at the finish line, cover the distance in 9–15 days. The Iditarod began in 1973 as an event to test the best sled dog mushers and teams but evolved into today's highly competitive race. The current fastest winning time record was set in 2011 by John Baker with a time of eight days, nine-teen hours, forty-six minutes, and thirty-nine seconds. Some of the winners are two from Norway, four-teen are from Alaska, four are from Minnesota, three are from Montana, there are four from Massachusetts and in California there are two.
The 2012 race has started. It started on Mach 3, 2012. The top five players are 1) Aliy Zirkle, 2) Mitch Seavey, 3) John Baker, 4) Jeff King, and lastly Dallas Seavey. Totally, there are 66 players. We had interviewed several people about Iditarod. We ask Mr. Garcia, a history teacher said that he likes dog, we also ask him if he thinks Iditarod seems to be fun and he said “yeah”. Eugene Rhee said “It seems fun and probably you can communicate with your dogs better. For more information check out: http://iditarod.com/

Real Madrid's Comeback

The soccer team Real Madrid is one of the best teams of the Union of European Football Associations.
Madrid has won multiple games like last weeks game against Espanyol 5-0. The scorers were Ronaldo in minute 23, Khedira in minute 38, Higuain in minute 47, Kaka in minute 66, and Higuain again in minute 78. They have also beaten Rayo, Levante, Gefate, and Racing, leaving Real Madrid undefeated this season.
Upcoming games are against Real Betis, Malaga, and Villarreal. Barcelona is ten points below Real Madrid, so the upcoming game against Barcelona on April 22nd is something to watch. Barcelona is Madrid’s rival so the game is always called the “Classic.” Barcelona will be at home, so Madrid will probably have a hard time concentrating.
The photographer went to his cousin who is a huge fan of Real Madrid but since no one knows him he wants his name to not be known. The photographer, Axel Zarate asked his cousin his thoughts on Madrid and their current games.
His answer was " Real Madrid is the best team and they're ten points ahead of Barcelona"."

The Most Valuable NBA Players

There’s one thing that bothers people about sports and that is when a good player never gets what he deserves. That is what is happening to Kobe Bryant. Bryant hasn’t been in the discussion for the 2011-12 NBA MVP until recently. After Bryant scored 33 points to lead the Lakers to defeat the Miami heat 93-83 Sunday, more people have been discussing Bryant for MVP.
What about in January when he scored 40 points in four games? What about averaging 29 points, six rebounds, and five assists per game this season?
Not only he has been playing this good, but he’s been doing it while the team is surrounded in controversy. Bryant isn’t only dealing with these issues but he started the year with a divorce and still he gets his job done.
Not every student at Virgil agrees with Kobe as a likely MVP candidate. When asked what he thinks about Bryant not winning the MVP, Ram Calzado said, “I think Kobe Bryant hasn’t been the MVP, because he should win more games and maybe he isn't because of his personal problems."

Gregg Williams paid players for injuries in targeting opponents during the last three seasons. The NFL said as many as twnety-seven defensive players were involved with the practice in the 2009-10 season. “Knocks- outs” were worth $1,500 and “Cart-offs” $1,000.
The investigation has come at a time when players' safety has increased as a concern when it comes to injuries. The NFL issues heavy fines for dangerous play, including concussions caused by helmet to helmet hits.
When asked about these actions Victor Chavez, “They shouldn’t do that because players could’ve died.”

The slam dunk contest was won by Jeremy Evans by doing a dunk of two basketballs, which he caught in mid-air from Jazz teammate Gordon Heyward. The contest was on February 26, 2012 in Orlando, Florida, in the Magic's home arena.
Many people say that it was not a good contest this year because there were no star players. For example, the players involved were Chase Buddinger, Paul George, and Derrick Williams.

Kobe Bryant Breaks Michael Jordan Score
By: Mariella Munoz and Judith Atanacio
Kobe Bryant took over Michael Jordan’s scoring record, then nearly lost the All-Star game to LeBron James and the eastern all star team in Orlando, Florida. Kobe Bryant scored 27 points, moving past Michael Jordan as the career scoring leader in the all star game. MVP Kevin Durant had 36 points, and the Western Conference held on for a 152-149 points victory over the East on Sunday night. Lebron James and the east cut a 21-points deficit to one point in the closing seconds, but they weren’t able to move in front. James scored 36 points and fellow Heat star Dwyane Wade finished with a triple-double score.
"With all these great players on the floor, you never know what will happen. Guys making big shots and they cut it down to one. We were up 18 at halftime,” Durant said.“It was fun. That’s the type of All-Star game you want to see.”Blake Griffin has scored 22 points for the West Team, which rang up 89 points in the first half, setting an All-Star record. But he won the game with his defense, picking off James’ pass when the East had a chance to tie in the final seconds.“I can’t turn the ball over like that,” James said. “I let my team down, but overall it was a great weekend.”Griffin then hit one free throw with 1.1 seconds left, and Wade was off on a 3-point attempt from the corner.
He finished with 24 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists, joining Jordan and James as the only players with All-Star game triple-doubles.Durant was the MVP, leaving Bryant tied for the All-Star record with his four. But he got a bigger mark in his 13th All-Star game. He broke Jordan’s record of 262 points on a dunk with 4:57 left in the third quarter and now has 271 for his career. He entered with 244 and passed Oscar Robertson 246 points and Kareem Abdul-Jabbar (251) earlier in the game.It nearly wasn’t enough, as the East’s comeback had the crowd filled with entertainers and athletes chanting for defense never a part of the All-Star game vocabulary in the final seconds. With Bryant covering him, James hit two long 3-pointers in the final period, and the East had a chance when Bryant, with the crowd loudly booing, missed a free throw with 18 seconds left and the West up 151-149.
"Just being a competitor,” James said. “They pretty much beat us up all game so we just wanted to make a game of it.”But New Jersey’s Deron Williams was short on a 3-pointer, and after the East came up with it, James fired a pass into a crowd that Griffin intercepted. On a colorful night in Orlando, from pregame performer Nicki Minaj’s pink and green hair to the neon sneakers many of the stars wore, Dwight Howard had nine points and 10 rebounds as the game’s host. The NBA’s first All-Star game in Orlando in 20 years wasn’t close after 2 1/2 quarters. But players always say it gets competitive in the final five minutes, and James was again up for the challenge. He hiked his scoring average to 25.9 points over his eight All-Star games, and someday he’ll probably take the record Bryant set Sunday. But he couldn’t quite catch Kobe in the game.

Kobe's nose broken during NBA all star game
By: Claudia Marroquin, Sarah Marquez, Belen Perez, Gie Kang
Kobe Bryant broke his nose in the NBA all star game on Sunday February 26, 2012 at 7:30 p.m. in the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida. Dwyane Wade fouled Bryant hard, causing his nose to break and give him a concussion. Wade is Bryant’s friend, and Dwyane Wade said he didn’t mean to do that. Kobe Bryant knows he wouldn’t foul him hard for no reason.
A day after getting concussion and passing the difficult physical test, he got the clearance from his neurologist and returned to the LA Lakers. He played game against the Timberwolves. But he said, "it’s still uncomfortable."
Sport’s page reporters interviewed students Ana Torres and Rosa Lemus to ask them how they feel about Kobe’s accident. Ana said she was shocked and wondering who broke his nose. Rosa also said she was shocked and surprised that this happened during an all star game. Ana said Kobe Bryant shouldn’t play, “because what if some elbows him?” Rosa’s question was, “what if he break it more?” They have different opinions, but they are both worried about him. Ana Torres thinks Kobe doesn’t care, but Rosa Lemus believes he is in pain. They both think he wants to win the game and has played through pain before. They also told reporters the “Lakers will lose,” and “the Lakers won’t play that well,” without Kobe Bryant. They feel bad for his concussion and worry because they understand the risks that multiple concussions pose for athletes.
Virgil students like him and they are worried him. But he is back with a mask to protect his nose. They are now referring to him as "The Masked Mamba."

Kobe says not to blame Dwayne Wade for his injury
By: Mariella Munoz, Judith Atanacio, and Alexander Cabrera
Kobe Bryant was hit in the nose by Dwayne Wade during the All Star Game on Sunday's Game and now Bryant wears a real "mask" when it's game time but it does not hold any grudges against Dwayne Wade and they doesn't want people to blame him for the foul. According to Pro basketball's report, Kobe and Dwayne Wade were close friends.
"It was very simple,” Kobe Bryant said of the damage from Wade’s foul Sunday he also said that “He didn’t mean to do it. It was just something that just happens. He’s not that type of person" Would do that to him because there were actually close friends.
"We’ve been close friends for a long time,” Bryant said. “Myself, ‘Melo Carmelo Anthony and him are really good Friends. We’ve been really, really close.” Bryant said.
That's not exactly what the Lakers fans wanted to hear but oh well. Despite wearing the protecting mask, Kobe Bryant still scored 31 points even though his wearing a mask to protect his nose and helped the Lakers beat the Wolves on Wednesday night game. He even had really nice dunk which people or Lakers Fan hadn't seen him do in a while.
It's nice to see that Kobe Bryant came out to speak on it because Dwayne Wade was getting bombarded by reporters about the foul and people, including Lakers Fan, wondered if there was any animosity between the two. They will probably get very close during the Olympics in Beijing and built a strong friendship from there.
Dwayne Wade and Kobe Bryant may be good are friends but they still have a game to play on Sunday.

Is Manningham leaving the Giants

Feb.27,2012
On February 5, 2012, Manningham made a catch in the fourth quarter of Super Bowl XLVI to make the win against the Patriots. Trailing by 2 points with 3 minutes 46 seconds remaining, the Giants started the winning drive. Eli Manning lofted a long pass down the left sideline to Mario Manningham, who kept his feet inbounds by inches with two defenders around him. The Giants got lucky, the score is 21-17. Manningham ended the game with 5 catches for 73 yards. On Super Bowl XLVI, Manningham was considered to be the key for the victory of New York Giants. He made a touchdown that gave his team success.
Mario Manningham has been playing in NFL since 2008. He had played 49 games with 2,315 yards and 18 touchdowns. His first team is New York Giants, he was never traded. He stayed to Giants since 2008. In some news sources they say that Manningham is 75% sure that he is leaving Giants. Some say that it’s 50/50. One of the main reasons why he is going to another teams is budget cuts according to a New York daily news.com, one of the teams that might be interested in getting him for the next season is Tampa Bay Buccaneers.
We have interviewed several people about their opinion. Bryan Scott said that it is stupid. While Christian Martinez said that he doesn’t really care about Manningham’s decision. We also ask them about their opinion if it’s a big loss for Giants. Bryan said “yes”, well this opinion contradicts what Christian said, his opinion is “Not really because they had other better player. In my opinion, Manningham is a free person; he can choose whatever team he wants to go. The football fans just have to wait and see what team he’ll be on the next season.

Jeremy Lin's Weaknesses
By: Mariella Munoz, Judith Atanacio, and Alexander Cabrera
Jeremy Lin’s career takes off with "Linfinity and beyond". Jeremy Lin has become one of the biggest inspirations in sports today. He is making teenagers believe once again, and he’s living a proof that dreams come true.
In the Jeremy Lin era the New York Knicks suffered a loss with their new point guard sensation on the floor. But if the Knicks continue to have success under Lin's guidance, one thing needs to be corrected, and it has nothing to do with turning the ball over. Right now Lin's biggest weakness is at the defensive end of the floor.
On one way, the Knicks are going to have to find a way to keep Lin fresh and energized. He can't afford to take breaks on the defensive end of the floor.
We interviewed Mariella about what she thinks about Jeremy Lin and she responded “I like how he plays but I think he needs to work on his weaknesses.“

Softball Student: Mike Gomez
By: Sarah Marquez, Claudia Marroquin, Belen Perez, and Gie Kang
This season, some popular sports are soccer, volleyball, and especially soft ball. Softball is a great sport to get an opportunity to work together and make new friends. At Virgil Middle School, it also provides a healthy and safe environment. Many students are in the Virgil Middle School softball team, like Mike Gomez (inLA 8th grader).
Mike, who plays as a catcher in second base, said that softball was a fun experience that he just wanted to try. He also included how 2 weeks, on a Saturday, there will be a game but he is not sure what school his team will play against. Mike Gomez encourages students to tryout for softball next year because “you do a lot of activities and have fun!”
Sports Page reporters recommend Virgil Tigers to try out if they are interested in softball.

The Lakers’ team might want Michael Beasley to be part of their team. Some of their fans are supporting the idea because he is known for having good talents. But others are opposing because he is also known for having lots of mental problems. He as well has a problem with smoking marijuana. Lakers fans say he won’t solve their problems; his score in each game is 12.2 points.

Kickball Game Does Not Take Place at Virgil Between Students and Staff
By Adan Quiroz, Bryan Garay, and Jonathon Portillo

A kickball game was going to happen on Friday February 24. The game was supposed to be students vs. staff and happen on the lower field on the baseball fields. Students wanted to participate or go cheer them on. However, the game has to be rescheduled because of a lack of faculty participation. Only Mr. Balestrieri and Ms. Chavez showed up on time for the game.
Alfonso Garcia was asked if he was going to play and said, "No." The Tiger's Roar also asked who was going to win. He answered, "The staff is going to win because they are bigger and stronger than the students." The Sports Page asked if lots of people were going to play and he answered, "No, not that many." Mr. Keiler said, "Yes he would play, and the staff is going to win."
The game never took place, but instead a basketball game broke out in which the students and staff played on the same team. According to one teacher, "It was cooperative and fun!"

Lakers Good at Home, Bad on Road

Surprisingly, the Lakers have been dominant at the Staples Center, but whenever they leave, they lose their edge. According to the LA Times, “they look broken.” The Lakers lost a brutal game against the Oklahoma Thunder, 100-85. Kobe Bryant and Andrew Bynum, the two “all-stars” couldn’t "find the net." Blogs have been real pushy about the Lakers since they started losing whenever they’re not at LA. A blog with a link to the LA Times stated, “the Lakers are on the road, so you know what that means. Another loss.”
The Lakers second unit or “bench” is terrible. They don’t play good defense and the Lakers lost the Sixth Man of the Year, Lamar Odom. When the bench comes in, that’s when everything goes wrong. The Lakers need to get something going on. In breaking news, the Lakers signed former Portland Trailblazers and Celtics forward Rasheed Wallace out of retirement to join the bench and back up Pau Gasol.
One student said, “The Lakers suck this year. They miss simple shots."

Jeremy Lin was picked up and dropped two times just in this season. He was picked from Golden State Warriors and Houston Rockets and they eventually dropped Lin. On February 4, 2012, Lin had 25 points, five rebounds, and seven assists in a 99–92 Knicks victory over the New Jersey Nets. On February 0, Lin scored a new career-high 38 points and had seven assists, leading the Knicks in their 92–85 victory over the Los Angeles. He outscored the Lakers' Kobe Bryant, who had 34 points. These insane victories of New York Knicks made the word “Lin-sanity”
Jeremy Lin graduated in Harvard in 2010. He plays basketball in NCAA and his season was successful. He was candidate for some awards like he was one of 30 midseason candidates for the John R. Wooden award and one of 11 finalists for the Bob Cousy award. He finished his career as the first player in the history of the Ivy League to record at least 1,450 points (1,483), 450 rebounds (487), 400 assists (406) and 200 steals (225). He graduated from Harvard in 2010 with a degree in economics and a 3.1 grade point average. Lin is an Evangelical Christian who was a leader in Harvard’s Asian American Christian Fellowship during his time there. Lin would one day like to be a pastor who can head up non-profit organizations, either home or abroad. He has also talked of working in inner-city communities to help with underprivileged children.
We have interviewed several students about how they feel about Jeremy Lin. We ask them if they have heard of Jeremy Lin. What do you think about Jeremy Lin? We asked Mr. C if he knows him and he said “ I’ve heard of him. He is a very good player specially in defense.” We also asked Jorge and this is what he said “Of course I know Jeremy Lin. He is a very good point guard.” We also asked, Who is better, Kobe or Jeremy? Mr. C said “In defense I would say that Jeremy Lin is better. In offense Kobe is more better because he can score three point shots.” We also asked Jorge and he said “I’m still going with Kobe because he is more experienced. We interviewed Mr. Keiler too. “They need to show Lin’s true powers. Kobe, look at his fingers he has 5 rings.” Lastly We asked do you believe that the NY Knicks can take it all now because of Jeremy Lin? Mr. C said “probably they could win because they have a good chance now.” Jorge said “No, they need to lower down on their turn over and need a better defense.” Mr. Keiler said “Not just because of Lin he’s an important piece but they need their other two players to play good because he had the best debute ever in the history of NBA. But that’s one good week.”

Blake Griffin's Timeline
By: Yeho Lee, Matthew Perez, and Ivana Rivera
February 21, 2012
Blake Austin Griffin is a professional NBA player for the L.A. Clippers. He was born on March 16, 1989 in Oklahoma City. Oklahoma is where he played for his high school basketball team and his college team. He started his NBA career on April 7, 2009 as an NBA when he was drafted by the Clippers.
Blake Griffin's stats are better this season than last season. He has 549 points so far, turnovers: 80, steals: 23, rebounds: 282 and blocks: 23. Blake has made 79 assists this season. He also received the Rookie of the Year Award in 2011.
He has outshone his potential so far, but people want to see more of him and see him score more. When asking students from Virgil what they think about Blake Griffin, one responded, “He gets a lot of rebounds.” Another stated, “This season he and the Clippers are doing really good.”
There has been recent talk of Blake Griffin not taking Clippers losses very well. He blames himself for not doing the right plays at the right times. Blake Griffin took it very hard recently when The Clippers lost to the Mavericks in Dallas. “It’s on me," Griffin said of the loss. "I missed shots. I missed free throws. I missed an easy layup. I missed a dunks.” He has to know teams will lose and they just have to come back from them, try harder, and learn from their mistakes.
The Sports Page asked people if they think the Clippers have a chance of winning the title this year and Briana Salinas said, ”No, because this is their first year of getting used to all the new players and I believe they will get as far as the play offs.” The Clippers have to keep their heads in the game. Students will just have to wait and see if they outdo the Lakers and call themselves Los Angeles' Champions.

On Sunday, the African Cup’s final was played between the two best teams in Africa, Ivory Coast and Team Zambia. The winner of the African Cup was Zambia. This is their first African Cup victory.
The final game took place in Gabon's capital, Libreville. The two teams went to a penalty shootout and the best player of Ivory Coast’s team - Diedier Drogba- missed two single penalties. This was a good moment for Zambia, because now the country can recover from a devastating blow.
Zambia’s win stunned people all over the world. In 1993, all eighteen players died in an airplane crash, so the team had to search for all-new players to be on the national team to participate in future tournaments.

London Summer Olympics

The Olympics is a sporting event for many people who are the best athletes in their given sport in the entire world. People train for years just to be in the Olympics. This year, London is hosting the Summer Olympics for the third time. It will be held from July 27 to August 12. Then again from August 29 to September 9. The first time London hosted them was in 1908. Then the second time was in 1948.
In 1908, London was not supposed to host the Olympics. They were supposed to be held in Rome, but the eruption of Mount Vesuvius on April 7, 1906 caused them to be redirected. They took place between April 27 to October 31, 1908. There were 110 events and twenty-two nations were participating.
The second one was in 1948. They were originally supposed to be help in1944 during World War II, but were cancelled. This Olympics had 136 events with 59 nations participating. Sadly, Germany and Japan weren’t invited to them. These events were held July 29-August 14, 1948.

Los Angeles Lakers vs. Boston Celtics
By: Judith Atanacio, Alexander Cabrera, and Mariella Munoz
The Los Angeles Lakers vs. the Boston Celtics tonight was a competitive game since Ray Allen and Derek Fisher were both great 3-point shooters. The Lakers and Celtics are two rivals that are always competing in games and struggling with each other. The Lakers have won three straight games in Boston. The Los Angeles Lakers continued their road trip against the Boston Celtics at the TD Garden in Boston on Thursday night and are struggling to regain the power in the rivalry and show who is the better team.
The Lakers are (14-11) on the season, while the Boston Celtics are (14-10). Steve Blake of the Lakers had a rib cage injury and has missed thirteen games already but will play against the Celtics. The Lakers thought they had a great chance of winning in Boston because this season the Boston Celtics have been struggling, but recently they have gotten hot. They started out this season slow, but have picked up some steam and have been the winners of their last ten games.
“Get strapped in for tonight’s game because its going to be gritty entertainment,” Virgil student Kevin said. He, "goes for the Celtics and hopes they win the championship and get very far."

SUPER BOWL XLVI

On Sunday, February 5, 2012 was the first Super Bowl to be played in Indianapolis at Lucas Oil Stadium, also only the fourth time that the Super Bowl has been played in a cold weather. The giants quarterback Eli Manning, who completed 30 of 40 passes 296 yards and a touchdown, was named Super Bowl for the second time in his career. The Giants had put a new record of the poorest regular season record 9-7. The Super Bowl Was most watched program in the United States television. The New York Giants had 21 touchdowns and the Patriots had 17 touchdowns this year.
When asked did he like the Super Bowl, Kevin Zelaya replied, “Absolutely," and also described the game as, “Exciting, because I made a bet, fifty dollars for the NY Giants.”
We worked too hard to get here.” These are some of the quotes that some of the Giants said.

The New York Giants were the winners of Super Bowl XLVI, their greatest victory since their last win in the 2004 Super Bowl. Last Tuesday, about one million people including the mayor, Michael Bloomberg, and Governor, Andrew Cuomo, went to the victory parade. Many people were dressed in Giants gear. The Giants coach and the teammates were on a float waving and smiling while their fans were cheering for them. While the Giants were at the parade, they were showered with thirty tons of confetti. The Giants were also in a City Hall Plaza ceremony. People that had tickets were allowed to go in while the Giants were being honored. The Giants received the keys to the city. The Giants parade was also the second parade the Giants have had in four years, the last one being in 2008 when they beat the Patriots in the NFL. The parades overall cost estimate was about $331,000.
Patriots lost the Super Bowl

On February 5, Giants fans were shocked when the Giants beat the Patriots for a second time. Sports writer George Robert said there was only one reason why they lost, “The Patriots weren’t the best team on the field.” His opinion was that the players on the Giants were more talented than the players on the Patriots, even though the Patriots had a better record during the regular season than the Giants.
Others say that the Patriots will show up with the same defense next year. “If they want to get back to the super bowl, they have to get better talent on the defensive side of the ball,” writes George. Also, some people say that they lost because Wes Welker wasn’t able to catch a ball from Tom Brady.
Billy Sullivan formed the Patriots for the football league in 1959. The Patriots defeated the Buffalo Bills on July 30, 1960. The Patriots have won many times in the super bowls. They started poorly, but got better talent throughout the years. In New England, they only practice and hire players that they are sure will play their absolute hardest in games. They believe that to win, they have to have a greater amount of practice than the other opponents.

Giants Take Over the Patriots

Last Sunday, the Giants went head to head against the Patriots in Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis. This has been the second time the Giants have beaten the Patriots in a Super Bowl. In the last 57 seconds, the Patriots had time to win the Super Bowl. Tom Brady was going for a Hail Mary pass to his tight end but then the referee saw the football touched the ground and said the play was over. Then, Tom Brady’s last play with seconds left went again for a Hail Mary pass. “Hike,” he said and threw the ball to his teammate, but when the tight end of the Patriots jumped and raised his hands to reach for the ball and win the Super Bowl, the defense of the Giants hit the ball to the ground and the referee blew the whistle to signal the end of the game.
Eli Manning obviously was hot in demand, and he spoke with reporters and hugged teammates without swagger. In other words, the same old Eli Manning now has two Super Bowl rings and two Super Bowl MVP awards, and no one seems surprised.
The fans went crazy once the ball touched the ground because the Giants had just beaten the Patriots for the second time in Super Bowl history. Thanks to the catch of Mario Manningham, the Giants won Super Bowl XLVI. He caught the ball when his toes were inside the field, but the ball was going outside. That play was known as one of the best plays in Super Bowl history because the experts said that no other wide receiver could’ve done a catch like Manningham. Thanks to the Giants football team, this is the twenty-sixth time the NFC has won the Super Bowl and still, the AFC teams have twenty-three Super Bowl wins.
“The Giants earned it and worked hard for it,” said Tyrone Severe, an avid football fan and campus supervision aide. When representatives of the Tiger’s Roar asked Tyrone who he thought contributed to the Giants win, he responded “Eli Manning most of all.”

Lakers and Celtics Go At It Again

The Celtics and Lakers rivalry has been going on since 1959. The Celtics have been NBA Champions more than the Lakers. Out of twelve series, the Lakers only won three times. Larry Bird and Magic Johnson heated up the rivalry in 1984 when they faced each other in the NBA Finals. It was the rise of a new era in the NBA. The rivalry between these two great players went on for years until Magic Johnson was marked positive for HIV and retired on May 14, 1996. This didn’t stop the rivalry between these two teams.
On Thursday in Boston, the Celtics and the Lakers went at it again. But is it the same? A lot of students believe yes and others believe no. We asked our fellow students and staff about what they think. We interviewed, Mr. C and he said,” I would go for the Lakers and always will. Yes I watched the game and I enjoyed it. I enjoyed because the overtime when Pau Gasol blocked Rondos shot. I enjoy the rivalry because the ay they block each other as if it’s always a championship game. There is always going to be a rivalry between them two.” We also interviewed Mr. Keiler; he said “Yes I watched most of it. It was a close intense game both played great defense and Lakers gave their toughness. Its good seeing the Lakers play great defense. “Last but not least we interviewed Jorge Vasquez,” Yeah I watched it. Yeah I thought it was good because it was a close game. I enjoyed games with Magic Johnson versus Larry Bird. There is still a rivalry game between them and every time they play against each other they play hard.”
Now, pepople can see how much the Virgil students enjoy the Lakers, especially when they play against the Boston Celtics. It appears the rivalry will continue on for the forseeable future. No matter what, the games will be good and The Tiger's Roar staff wishes the best of luck to the Los Angeles Lakers.

Aaron is the new MVP
By Adan Quiroz
Aaron Rodgers won the MVP award in the NFL by a landslide. This award is for the best player of 2011 and that was Aaron Rodgers. Rodgers becomes the fifth Green Bay Packer player to receive the award.
Rodgers is quoted as saying, “This is special, this is important to me,” to the Boston Herald. He also thanked the Packers for drafting him. This is one of the best awards that an NFL player can receive, but he would probably have preferred another Super Bowl ring instead.

Giants Win Round Two

February 10, 2012
It was a very unbelievable and historical moment when the crowd erupted in cheers to the surprising victory of the New York Giants in Super Bowl XLVI against the New England Patriots. The Super Bowl was held at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana.
The New York Giants had a record of 9-7 throughout the regular season. The Giants not only made history for winning the Super Bowl that night but for being the first team to come back from so many losses. They did not have more than ten wins and they won the Super Bowl.
On the other hand, the New England Patriots had a record of 13-3 throughout their regular season. They had a very strong season with only three losses to the New York Jets, New York Giants, and Baltimore Ravens.
Referring back to Super Bowl XLII, The Giants beat the Patriots 17-14. They played at University of Phoenix Stadium in Glendale, Arizona. Now, in Super Bowl XLVI, history repeated itself. The Giants beat the Patriots again.
Mathew Perez felt very happy because his favorite team won. Mr. Keiler felt elation. Jorge Vasquez said about the Patriots,"They needed the hail mary for payback for Super Bowl XLII.” Jorge Vasquez also said he thought, "The Patriots could have done better. Tom Brady was not playing his best.” Mr. Keiler mentioned that he thought one of the highlights of the game was the Manning to Manningham catch in the 4th quarter. The Giants won 21-17 in Super Bowl XLVI. Now, we just have to wait another year for Super Bowl XLVII to see who the next champs will be.
